Ten good reasons why you should drink more water:

You know that drinking water is good for you, but did you know that every system in your body depends on water? Here are sound reasons why drinking water is good for you and why you should make drinking 8-10 glasses of water part of your daily routine.

1. Get healthy skin. Drinking water moisturizes your skin from the inside out. Water is essential to maintaining elasticity and suppleness and helps prevent dryness.

2. Lose weight. Increased water consumption can help you control weight by preventing you from confusing hunger with thirst. Water will also keep your body systems working properly, including metabolism and digestion, and give you the energy (and hydration) necessary for exercise.

3. Flush toxins. By helping to flush toxins, appropriate water intake lessens the burden on your kidneys and liver.

4. Reduce your risk of a heart attack. Researchers at Loma Linda University in California studied more than 20,000 healthy men and women and found that people who drink more than five glasses of water a day were less likely to die from a heart attack or heart disease than those who drank fewer than two glasses a day.

5. Cushion and lube your joints and muscles. Water makes up a large part of the fluid that lubricates and cushions your joints and muscles. Drinking water before, during, and after exercise can also help reduce muscle cramping and premature fatigue.

6. Stay regular. Water helps prevent constipation by adding fluid to the colon and bulk to stools, making bowel movements softer and easier to pass.

7. Stay hydrated, get energised and be alert. On average, most adults lose about 10 cups of fluid a day through sweating, exhaling, urinating, and bowel movements. Even minor dehydration can cause impaired concentration, headaches, irritability, and fatigue.

8. Regulate your body temperature. Perspiration is your body’s natural mechanism to control body temperature. And to sweat, you need plenty of water.

9. Reduce your risk of disease and infection. Water can help prevent kidney stones and reduce your chances of getting bladder, kidney, and urinary tract infections. One study found that women who drank more than five glasses of water a day had a risk of colon cancer that was 45 percent less than those who drank two or fewer glasses a day.

10. Get well. The traditional prescription to “drink plenty of fluids” when you’re sick still holds strong. Water can help control a fever, replace lost fluids, and thin out mucus.


Seven good reasons why you should filter your drinking water:

We all know that we need to drink lots of water, but did you know that not all water is created equal? If you pay attention to the news, you’ll hear about all sorts of things that can get into the water. Although water authorities regulate the quality of tap water it pays to be vigilant. The most common concerns about water ‘on-tap’ from your local utility are:

CHLORINE: Chlorine is put into water supplies to kill bacteria and other pathogens. Indeed, it is necessary to do so to provide an ongoing supply of disease free water. However, chlorine causes drinking water to have an unpleasant taste and smell and has been linked to cancer and heart disease. Carbon filters will reduce chlorine and its associated taste and odour as well as giving you good, fresh tasting water. Carbon filters will also enhance the flavour of food, tea, coffee and other beverages.

TASTE AND ODOUR: Unpleasant tastes and odours can be caused by a variety of conditions. Chlorine is the most common cause but other factors such as high mineral content and decaying organic matter (most common in cul-de-sac sites on municipal supplies and in tank water). Generally carbon filters will improve this condition but sometimes a reverse osmosis purifier and/or ultra violet sterilizer will be required.

SEDIMENT: Sediment is usually only a problem in tank or creek water supplies or in areas where the municipal supply lines are very old. Pre-filtration in point of use purifiers will normally take care of this problem. Installation of a whole of house sediment reduction filter may be necessary in some circumstances.

HEAVY METALS AND DISSOLVED SOLIDS: A cocktail of heavy metals and dissolved solids can be present in your water supply. Combinations of aluminium, lead, arsenic, mercury, sulphates, nitrates, lime and other compounds can be present and dangerous to your health. A Revere Osmosis purifier will reduce the amount of these contaminants.

CRYPTOSPORIDIUM AND GIARDIA: Cryptosporidium and Giardia may be present in any of our water supplies. These protozoan cysts are resistant to the traditional chlorine disinfection and are not killed by ultra violet sterilisation. Symptoms of infection are stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and headaches. Symptoms can last up to 2 weeks until the body’s immune system defences take effect. Cryptosporidium and Giardia can be removed from water by ultra fine carbon filtration.

CHEMICALS: Chlorination of water creates the presence of other chemicals as by products, these include dichloromethane and chloroform. Other chemicals including fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides may be present from industrial and agricultural run-offs. Most of these chemicals can be sufficiently reduced by carbon filtration or reverse osmosis.

BACTERIA: Bacteria can be a problem especially in tank or creek water supplies. Clean, clear, good tasting water is not an indication of bacteria free water. Water quality: How is RO water compared to bottled water?

Just as good or even better. We use the same technology, reverse osmosis (RO), as other major bottling plants use to filter water. RO systems purify water daily in your home which is more naturally fresh and healthy compared to stagnant water that has been sitting in plastic bottles for many months.

Tap water safety: I thought my city’s tap water was safe to drink?

It is a known fact that many municipal water distribution channels across American cities are in desperate need of replacement from old age and wear. Water contamination can occur at almost any point in the delivery channel including lead leaching from corroded pipe solder, bacteria entering the system from water main breaks, or gardening chemicals back-siphoned from a careless neighbor.

Unfortunately most local and state governments do not have the financial resources to address these very expensive problems now or in the foreseeable future. To make matters worse, most cities also add chemicals like chlorine and fluoride to their water. The truth is, tap water quality in the US will most likely continue to decline in the coming years. The best way to protect your family from the increasingly wide range of contaminants found in today’s tap water is by installing a reverse osmosis drinking water system.

RO filtration: How effective is Reverse Osmosis filtration compared to other methods?

RO is the most convenient and effective method of water filtration. It filters water by squeezing water through a semi-permeable membrane, which is rated at 0.0001 micron (equals to 0.00000004 inch!). This is the technology used to make bottled water, it is also the only technology capable of desalinating sea water, making it into drinking water.

Non-RO water filters typically use a single activated carbon cartridge to treat water. They are much less effective, and the pore size on these filter media are much bigger, generally 0.5 – 10 micron. They can filter out coarse particles, sediments and elements only up to their micron rating. Anything finer and most dissolved substances cannot be filtered out. As a result, water is far less clean and safe compared to reverse osmosis filtration.
